NovaVision Patient Article NovaVision VRT: Improving Vision Deficits Once Considered Untreatable In New York, approximately 250,000 residents have had a stroke (N.Y. State Dept. of Health). Of this group, roughly 20% have experienced vision loss. Many of these survivors have difficulty with activities such as reading, walking, and watching TV, which has limited their mobility and independence. Until recently, patients could undergo a variety of speech, physical and occupational therapies to regain function, with vision loss left unaddressed. Now regardless of when the injury occurred, survivors can possibly regain some of their vision through groundbreaking vision therapy offered at the Neurological Institute of New York at Columbia University Medical Center: NovaVision VRTtm Vision Restoration Therapy tm(VRT). Stroke Family Organization - Barbara Schacker
Our approach is a breakthrough in speech recovery. Only Stroke Family speech practice tools utilize the brain research that shows that the other side of the brain can talk and that the brain can be "reprogrammed" to use this untapped speech area.
The "Let's Talk!" talking software, tracing sheets and word card games and activities are easy to use. Family members, assistants at nursing homes, as well as speech pathologists, are elated when they hear speech return, even for those who previously could not be helped, even severe and global aphasia.
Speech Tree Sentence Maker
The next step for moderate aphasia or those who have moved beyond Let's Talk and Lefty's Tracing Sheets. Worksheets and Lessons on the software have over 400 of the most frequently used and easily spoken words. Go from one phrase or sentence to over 1000 different phrases and sentences. Then, learn how to make your own "speech trees" for unlimited sentence-making. The 16 different activities explore "word finding", "word combining" and sentence making. More Info
You can do this too. Although it is best to start right away, our methods work even years later, even if you've been diagnosed "untreatable". Whether you use the program at home independently, at a nursing home or combined with other therapies, we will teach you how to activate speech from the alternate speech center. This other speech center has been largely overlooked by the medical field because they didn't know how to activate it.
Our kits and materials represent years of research and work with adults and children with strokes and head injuries and their families as well as speech pathologists and other health care professionals.
Stroke Family kits provide effective, motivating programs and materials for mild, moderate or severe aphasics or apraxics. To find out more, call toll free: 877-835-3157. Someone with years of experience will be happy to talk with you. Outside of the USA call 001 845 679 3717.
