Place the stroke survivor closeto the edge of the table and have them wheel it with their arm fullyextended from side to side. This movement will look like aprotractor. The stroke survivor may not be able to do this all theway at first but have them keep trying for as long as it takes. 2.)Thelouvre door upside down is a good exercise for the arm and shoulder.Have the stroke survivor walk their hand and fingers as high as theycan go and then come back down. This will increase their range ofmotion and over time they will be able to raise their armsthemselves. 3.)Assimple as this sounds, shrugging ones shoulders up and down in arepetitive motion will strengthen the shoulder muscles. 4.)Makelike you are sleep walking with your hands straight out in front ofyou then bring them back like you were an airplane with wings, repeatthis as often as you can. 5.)Takea pair of women’s nylon stockings, tie one foot ending to somethingin front of you on something like a table and be far enough away thatyou can pull on it with some tension.
