A MAGAZINE FOR STROKE SURVIVORS, CARE GIVERS, THE MEDICAL PROFESSION AND THOSE INTERESTED IN STROKE RECOVERY
Issue: #6    Front Page
October/2007
Dear Peter,

This month a topic we should feature regularly is about depression, Many, no lots, of people we talk to have it so do not feel alone. There are millions of people suffering with it. It is better to get rid of it than to keep it in our daily being. Put the human back in being. All calls remain anonymous...Peter V Cornelis

The 17th Senatorial Senior Expo with Senator Connie Williams 17th district...
by Peter V Cornelis...
sen. connie williamsThe Senior Expo held  on Thursday October 4th, 2007 at Plymouth Meeting was well attended. The Brain Injury group (Susan Weinhold right side), Senator Connie Williams (middle) and the fat kid on the left side (Peter V Cornelis) along with Hope for Stroke would like to thank the Senator for her continuing support for seniors. We also asked the Senator to have a stroke awareness week to help people recognize, treat and recover from stroke. We would be happy to volunteer, should the Senator make this week happen.
We met many stroke survivors and also those interested in the signs of stroke and Brain Injury. Many stopped by for the information we had to give them. Stroke is the number one reason for disability in the USA. In direct and non related expenses the costs for stroke and TBI,s, (Traumatic Brain Injury) is in the billions. Many of these costs and productive lives could be saved along with the degree of the experience if they knew what to do.

WHEN GOOD DAYS GO BAD...OFTEN, by PETER V CORNELIS...

Yes, many of us have this and have had it, that feeling that nothing is going right and you are caught smack dab in the middle of it. It is and can be a recurring nightmare. Depression, sixty percent maybe more of stroke survivors experience it. It seems like a whirlpool taking the individual to the bottom with no way out. There is hope and many have found their way out of this affliction. Pharmaceuticals, Medical professionals and self help may be the way out of such a dilemma. Self help may be the key to getting started on the road to wellness along with the Medical route. The first step is to recognize that you have it and admit it to yourself. You do not have to proclaim it to the world, but to thy own self be true. Sometimes the truth hurts and if it causes enough pain in your life it is time to do something about it. If you are experiencing these feelings please read the links on depression below. And by all means feel free to call this office to talk about it. We will try to help you through it.  Call 1 888 229 4616

Depression is a serious medical illness; it's not something that you have made up in your head. It's more than just feeling "down in the dumps" or "blue" for a few days. It's feeling "down" and "low" and "hopeless" for weeks at a time. More about Depression »

The Stroke Mall

Great medicine form from the FDA
everyone should print out this form and use it, compliments of the FDA and Kimberly Reuffer, RN
A very good friend use to say, "to concentrate on your abilities and not on your disabilities. To renew each day with a conviction to becoming better than you were. because to stop is to give up, so never give up". Works for anything worthwhile in life.  Your life is worth it.

Sincerely,

Peter Cornelis/President
